Welcome to this new world!

Here I am in my late 40’s trying to get my head around the world of blogging. I run an employment law consultancy with my mate Julie. Our business, EmployEase: The Employment Practice Ltd, is 16 years old. Over that time we have gone from writing letters, making phone calls and the occasional fax, to computers, emails, mobiles that aren’t the size of bricks, and now tweets and blogs.

Its fantastic that we can all communicate so quickly, but I have to say sometimes I miss the quiet time to think.

So, what will this blog be about? Updates about UK employment law and the lives of two women running a business together from two different ends of the country….

Do we have to give staff the bank holiday off?

Employers who express the holiday entitlement as 5.6 weeks inclusive of bank holiday will not be legally bound to pay an extra day for the funeral. Those employers who express holiday entitlement for their full time staff as 20 days plus bank holidays will have to pay for the extra day.
